Tour: Getting to know MAC’s new arts grants

By Martine Friesen

MAC is committed to supporting artistic activity for the benefit of all Manitobans.  Funding is available to provide audiences throughout the entire province of Manitoba access to professional artistic activity in the performing arts.

The Program

The Tour program supports touring activities across Manitoba by professional artists, arts groups, and arts organizations in the performing arts.

Grant amounts

This program has two grant types: Small scale and Large scale. You could apply for up to $ 10,000 for a small scale project or $ 75,000 for the large scale.  However, to be eligible for a large scale grant in the Tour program, your organization must receive an operating grant from the Manitoba Arts Council.

Who can apply

In order to apply to the Tour program, you must be a professional artist, a professional arts group, or a professional arts organization in the performing arts. That means you must have a valid profile as an individual or a group on MAC’s Online Application System. To give yourself enough time, make sure that you submit your profile to MAC at least 15 business days before you want to start your application.

What you can apply for

If you work in the performing arts and you’re planning a tour across Manitoba, this is the program for you! This grant can help you cover direct costs related to your current tour.

When you can apply

The Tour program will have two deadlines in a given calendar year. The deadlines for the Tour program are April 1 and September 10.

Applicants must submit their applications for any MAC program by 11:59 PM on the day of the deadline. Previously, an application deadline would move to the following business day if it fell on a weekend or holiday. This allowed applicants to deliver or mail their paper application during regular business hours. Now that applications will be submitted online, deadline dates will be fixed.

How decisions are made

Your application to the Tour program will be assessed by a peer assessment jury representing a discipline or group of disciplines. This jury will use the following criteria to evaluate your proposed project:

  • Artistic Merit (50%)
  • Impact and engagement (30%)
  • Feasibility (20%)

If you’re interested in reading up on MAC’s evaluation process, you should check out our Peer Assessment Handbook.
