Donna Besel grew up in Whiteshell Provincial Park and self-identifies as a boreal writer. She loves writing of all kinds, and leads workshops for all ages. Her first book, Lessons from a Nude Man, a collection of short stories, was published by Hagios Press in 2015 and earned a fourth place spot on McNally Robinson’s list of 2015 bestsellers.
Deep Bay Residency Project
Residency dates: August 22 to September 4
During her time at Deep Bay, Donna plans to rewrite and edit seventeen linked short stories called Stories from Lost Lake set in a fictional wilderness community . Each story deals with a loss of some kind – be it an animal, parent, innocence, or a combination of many losses all at once. As part of her residency, Besel will also lead a creative writing workshop.
