With the Recognize: Competitions grant program MAC acknowledges, honours, and supports the career development of the highest level aspiring or emerging artists competing in Manitoba, at provincial or national level competitions in any discipline.
The Program
The Competitions program supports professional arts organizations that award prizes to aspiring and emerging artists through competitions at a national level or at a provincial level leading to the national level.
Grant amounts
You can apply for up to $ 10,000 in this program.
Who can apply
In order to apply to the Competitions program, you must be a professional arts organization. That means you must have a valid profile as an organization on MAC’s Online Application System. To give yourself enough time, make sure that you submit your profile to MAC at least 15 business days before you want to start your application.
What you can apply for
This program is intended to provide prize money assistance to the organization awarding prizes. The awarded winner(s) must be selected through a competitive process at or leading to a national level.
Competition prize monies are is the only eligible expenses in this program. Operating or administrative costs related to the competition or event are not supported.
When can you apply
The Competition program will have one deadline in a given calendar year. This deadline will stay the same from year to year starting in 2019 – The deadline for the Competitions program will be November 15th. For this year, 2018, we are offering a one-time only deadline for Competitions applications on December 13th, 2018.
Applicants must submit their applications for any MAC program by 11:59 PM on the day of the deadline. Previously, an application deadline would move to the following business day if it fell on a weekend or holiday. This allowed applicants to deliver or mail their paper application during regular business hours. Now that applications will be submitted online, deadline dates will be fixed.
How decisions are made
Your application to the Competitions program will be assessed by a peer assessment jury representing a discipline or group or disciplines. This jury will use the following criteria to evaluate your proposed project:
- Artistic Merit (50%)
- Impact (40%)
- Feasibility (10%)
If you’re interested in reading up on MAC’s evaluation process, you should check out our Peer Assessment Handbook.
