At the age of 11, Daniel bought a banjo with money saved from his paper route. A year later, he made his professional debut at the Winnipeg Folk Festival. Daniel has toured extensively as the guitarist and mandolinist with Finjan and is also the bassist with Klezmer ensembles Black Sea Station and From Both Ends of the Earth. Both his albums of original music, Clawhammer Your Way to the Top and Life on a String, were nominated for Juno awards. Daniel’s music has also been used to underscore theatre, film, and television productions.
Residency project
Daniel will focus his residency on the creation of new compositions for five-string banjo, which will be arranged for various instruments including bass, soprano and alto saxophone, clarinet, flute, violin, and percussion. After a performance and touring schedule that has kept him busy for more than a decade, Daniel is looking forward to the time and opportunity to return to his first musical love, the five-string banjo.
