Willow Rector – 2013 Deep Bay Artists’ Residency

Willow Rector has a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from the University of Winnipeg and a Master of Arts (English) from the University of Manitoba. She was a participant in the MAWA Foundation Mentorship Program in 2011-12. Willow’s current work focuses on mixed-media explorations of the Manitoba landscape.

Residency project

Willow will be engaged in research for a series of five multi-media portraits combining embroidered tapestries of the Manitoba landscape with photographic self-portraits.  She plans to photograph and video the Manitoba Escarpment on the edge of Riding Mountain National Park and will use this material to examine how the landscape affects the language we use to define ourselves and tell our stories.
