Dr. Kenneth Nichols came to Brandon College 50 years ago to teach piano, music theory, and the Carl Orff method for children. He has written approximately 70 works covering a variety of genres, including three operas. He taught music in China from 2005 to 2007. Now Professor Emeritus at the University of Brandon, he continues to live in Brandon.

Residency  project

With an electric keyboard in tow, Kenneth will arrange children’s songs for voices and piano inspired by the Mennonite songbook Liederbuch für Kinder. The songs will be set in the original High German with an English translation provided by Manitoba poet Di Brandt. By reviving this music and adding English translation, Kenneth hopes to open this forgotten treasure to many more children and adults.
