Kevin Ei-ichi deForest – 2016 Brooklyn Visual Arts Residency

Kevin Ei-ichi deForest is the artist-in-residence at the International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) in Brooklyn, New York from April 15th to June 30th, 2016. Kevin’s work is involved with the representation of hybrid identity, with a focus on his cultural heritage as a suburban Canadian mid-westerner of Japanese and European descent. His primary media of choice has been painting as well as video installation and he has a longstanding engagement with popular culture, particularly pop music. www.kevindeforest.ca

While in Brooklyn, Kevin will focus on producing a series of paintings that continues his exploration of hapa culture through both pop culture references and the representation of his parents and their mixed race identity. He will publicly present his work during the ISCP’s Open Studio, April 29 & 30.
