Melanie Rocan – 2014 Deep Bay Artists’ Residency

Melanie is a Manitoba-raised artist whose paintings sensitively explore fragile, subconscious states. She received an MFA in painting from Concordia University. A three-time semi-finalist for the RBC Painting Competition, Melanie has exhibited at the Winnipeg Art Gallery, Plug-In ICA, MOCCA and The Power Plant in Toronto, the Museé d’art contemporain de Montreal, as well as venues in Glasgow and the United States.

Residency project

While at the cabin, Shaun and Melanie will work on a body of small mixed-media works on canvas and will start a collaboration of miniature sculptures made with a variety of materials, including wood carving, polymer clay, wax, plaster, and acrylic paint.
