J.J. Kegan McFadden – 2013 Deep Bay Artists’ Residency

An active writer, curator, and artist, J.J. Kegan McFadden has exhibited and published his work throughout Canada and beyond since receiving his Master’s degree in Critical and Curatorial Studies from the Department of Art History, Visual Art and Theory at the University of British Columbia. McFadden is currently on a one-year research leave from his position as Director/Curator of PLATFORM Centre for Photographic + Digital Arts.

Residency  project

During his research leave from PLATFORM Centre for Photographic+ Digital  Arts, McFadden will be researching and categorizing a ‘school’ of contemporary photography indicative of the work produced by Winnipeg artists over the last 30 years. The residency provides an opportunity for him to reflect on and organize initial research material collected through studio visits with practising Manitoba artists, research into the origins of the Department of Photography at the University of Manitoba School of Art, and interviews with critics, historians, and curators familiar with this history.
