Rodney LaTourelle – 2012 Major Arts Grant

Rodney LaTourelle is an installation artist who draws simultaneously from the fields of art and architecture, examining the affective relationship between colour, spatial arrangements, and the viewer’s experience. He has shown in numerous exhibitions internationally and was included in the recent Canadian Biennial at the National Gallery of Canada.

Installation for Winnipeg Now exhibition at the Winnipeg Art Gallery

For the upcoming exhibition, LaTourelle will create an installation that concentrates on the psycho-geography of Winnipeg itself. The labyrinthine construction will choreograph a displacement between ‘inside’ and ‘outside’ using tonal variations of white and raw plywood, focusing on a sense of interiority that fluctuates between zones of inaccessibility and harsh physicality.
