Professional Manitoba artists of all disciplines working with teachers and students in K-12 school settings. Find out more here!
Artists in the Schools and ArtsSmarts are two MAC programs specifically aimed at facilitating partnerships between professional Manitoba artists and K-12 schools in Manitoba. Artists in the Schools has a roster of over 50 professional artists who travel to schools all over Manitoba, working with teachers and students to enrich the existing arts curricula. ArtsSmarts helps schools collaborate with local artists of their choosing to integrate the arts into the teaching of other curriculum areas.
The Artists in the Schools Program and ArtsSmarts are a vital part of MAC’s commitment to serving the people of Manitoba in the North and rural areas as well as in Winnipeg. In the 2008-2009 school year there was a total of 202 Artists in the Schools residencies in Manitoba schools; 24 of them were north of the 53rd parallel; 110 in rural communities in Southern Manitoba; and 68 in Winnipeg. A total of 30,403 students participated in residencies.
MAC also supports arts education through many other programs, including Student Bursaries, Travel/ Professional Development, Operating Grants for Professional Arts Training Schools, Touring Grants, Aboriginal Arts Mentorship Training and Development Grants, and Artist in Community Grants.
