Artists in the Schools and ArtsSmarts are two MAC programs specifically aimed at facilitating partnerships between professional Manitoba artists and K-12 schools in Manitoba. Artists in the Schools has a directory of over 60 professional artists who travel to schools all over Manitoba, working with teachers and students to enrich the existing arts curricula. ArtsSmarts helps schools collaborate with local artists of their choosing to integrate the arts into the teaching of other curriculum areas.

The Artists in the Schools Program and ArtsSmarts are a vital part of MAC’s commitment to serving the people of Manitoba in the North and rural areas as well as in Winnipeg. In the 2011-2012 school year there was a total of 220 Artists in the Schools residencies in Manitoba schools; 46 of them were north of the 53rd parallel; 102 in rural communities in Southern Manitoba; and 82 in Winnipeg. A total of 32,490 students participated in residencies.
