MAC is hiring two Program Consultants. One with a primary responsibility for Artists in Schools and one with a primary responsibility for Community Arts.

The Manitoba Arts Council (MAC) is an arms-length agency of the Province of Manitoba, established in 1965 “to promote the study, enjoyment, production and performance of works in the arts.” The Council makes awards to professional arts organizations and individuals in all art forms.

Position Summary:

Program Consultants are administrators responsible for delivering specific programming assistance for individual artists, arts organizations and schools. Program Consultants are responsible for developing and maintaining networks both within and outside the organization to keep abreast of developments and ensure adequate stakeholder representation through strong, trust-based community relationships.

Program Consultants must demonstrate an ability to work within an environment based on consistent, fair, transparent and fiscally responsible actions.  They work in a complex environment with a wide range of stakeholders and diverse issues.  A good understanding of public policy and government operating context are needed.

Program Consultants report to the Senior Program Consultant and work collaboratively with a team of administrative staff in support of the Manitoba Arts Council’s mission to “promote, preserve and support the arts as central to the quality of life of all the people of Manitoba.”

Program Consultants may demonstrate expertise in a certain artistic or educational area but will also exhibit knowledge of and respect for a diversity of artistic genres. A combination of training and experience in and/or knowledge of education, community arts, theatre, music, dance, literary arts, media arts, crafts or visual arts is required.

Experience/training in arts management and/or arts education is of value in this position.  Strong research and writing skills and excellent interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills are needed in order to communicate complex ideas and produce clear and concise recommendations.  Knowledge and experience in francophone, Indigenous, culturally diverse, and deaf and disability arts communities are significant assets.

Major Responsibilities and Functions

Program delivery and grant administration process:

  • Provide information to current and/or potential applicants about Council’s programs and the application process;
  • Assist and advise applicants on the grant application process, including use of the online grants management system;
  • Review and assess applications for eligibility;
  • Develop and complete reports on Council programs;
  • Coordinate and facilitate the peer review process.

Program planning and development:

  • Work occasional overtime, attend events on evenings and weekends and travel to different regions in Manitoba to meet with artists, arts organizations and schools to build awareness of MAC programs, and provide hand-on training on the granting process;
  • Recommend program changes and new initiatives based on research, peer assessor and client feedback, and relevant organization or community-based issues;
  • Contribute to the program budget development process.

Liaison with other institutions, agencies, industry and government:

  • Exchange information with other funding agencies, educational and government organizations to maintain current priorities and plans;
  • Attend arts service organization meetings, community consultations, relevant conferences, etc. to ensure MAC’s programs and approaches are informed by developments in the arts ecosystem.

Education and Skills:

  • a university degree and/or professional training with demonstrable accomplishments in the fields of community arts and/or education.
  • exceptional listening skills.
  • the ability to work effectively with a significant degree of independence.
  • strong research and writing skills.
  • excellent computer skills.
  • excellent interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills in order to communicate complex ideas and produce clear and concise recommendations.
  • the ability to communicate in French and English is an asset.

Compensation

This is a full-time position with a salary range of $55,000 to 65,000 per year.  MAC participates in Manitoba’s Civil Service Superannuation Board (Pension Plan) and offers a health benefits plan.
