Curtis Wiebe – 2015 Deep Bay Artists’ Residency

Curtis Wiebe is in residence at the Deep Bay Cabin August 10 – 23

The Artist: Curtis Wiebe is a multi-disciplinary artist and filmmaker. Identifiable by flights of the fantastic in settings of winter forests and prairie landscapes, Wiebe’s art is full of imaginative characters brought to life as puppets and elaborate costumes.  He has won the award for best Manitoba short film twice at the Gimli film festival and has had his short films screened at festivals all over the world including New York, Germany, France, Israel and Serbia.

Residency Project: Curtis will be mixing different media with filmmaking techniques in a series of tableaux that feature the natural setting of Riding Mountain National Park as the backdrop. He will be attempting to produce a unique, cohesive and fantastic visual world in preparation for a larger film project currently in development.

Meet the Artist: Friday August 14th at 6:30 p.m. at the Visitors Centre. Curtis will host a screening of some of his short films, including “Of Truth and Magic” which was last year’s winner of the best Manitoba short film award at the Gimli film festival, and which was recently screened as part of the “Canada: Not Short on Talent” Telefilm short film screening at Cannes.
