Michelle Elrick is the author of To Speak and the recipient of the 2011 John Hirsch Award for Most Promising Manitoba Writer. Her award-winning poetry and fiction have been published in journals across Canada and performed at festivals and events both here and abroad. Last summer, she created a series of performance installations called Notes from the Fort: a poetic of inhabited space in Reykjavik, Iceland.
Residency project
Michelle will be working toward producing the first draft of a new book-length poetry manuscript titled From Place(s) to Place(s) (that don’t exist anymore). This project explores the question “What is home” through place-based poems, fort building, and poetic documentations of space. During her residency, she will also construct a temporary “home” using the handmade materials from her Notes from the Fort project (2012).
