DEEP BAY 2013
JULY 29 – AUGUST 11

VISUAL ARTIST

Diana Thorneycroft has exhibited various bodies of work across Canada, the United States, and Europe, as well as in Moscow, Tokyo, and Sydney. Since 2005, she has been making photographs that focus on Canadian history and identity. Thorneycroft’s series Group of Seven Awkward Moments has been exhibited at the McMichael Canadian Art Collection, the Carleton University Art Gallery, the Winnipeg Art Gallery, The Reach Museum Gallery (Abbotsford), the Art Gallery of Windsor ,and the Canadian Cultural Centre in Paris. Her current exhibition, A People’s History, has been shown at the Art Gallery of Calgary, Art Mûr (Montreal), and the Art Gallery of Regina.

Residency project: Diana will begin a new body of work entitled Black Forest during her time at the Deep Bay cabin. She will construct a tableau and photograph it in the small studio. The foreground landscapes will be made from materials gathered from the area. One of the major influences for this new work is a game of tag that Diana and her siblings used to play in the dark woods surrounding their home in CBF Baden-Soellingen, Germany, where her father was stationed for four years. The only rule was that the game take place at night.
