Opening Reception: Through Landscape Architect’s Eyes

The Manitoba Arts Council is pleased to invite you to Through landscape architect’s eyes, an exhibition by INITIAL paysagistes.

INITIAL paysagistes is Lucie Poirier and Joséphine Billey, two artists from the Basse-Normandie region of France participating in a month-long artist residency hosted by MAC.

This exhibition is presented as part of an artist exchange program designed to develop new relationships between artists in Basse-Normandie and Manitoba.

The Manitoba Arts Council (MAC) congratulates Reva Stone, recipient of the 2015 Governor General’s Awards in Visual and Media Arts!

Manitoba artist Reva Stone is among eight recipients of this prestigious award recognizing artistic achievement and outstanding contributions in visual and media arts. The Award, which was presented by Governor General David Johnston at Rideau Hall in Ottawa on April 8, comes with a $25,000 cash prize, a unique bronze medallion created by the Canadian Mint, and an exhibition at the National Gallery of Canada.

Reva Stone is a celebrated contemporary Canadian artist recognized for decades of innovative work exploring relationships between interactive technologies and the human condition. The 2015 Regional Juried Art Show Schedule is now available

Each year six regional juried art shows are supported by the Manitoba Art’s Council’s Juried Art Shows program. This year’s shows occur in the Norman, Westman, Central, Interlake and Parkland regions of Manitoba. In each region, the shows are presented by communities that are part of a rotating schedule that allows them to host on a 2-3 year cycle.

Changes have been made to the Travel and Professional Development Program Application with Guidelines – March 2015

Revisions to guidelines reflect MAC’s commitment to effective, equitable, and efficient grant making while responding to the needs of Manitoba artists and communities.

The Travel/Professional Development Grant provides support to professional artists and arts administrators and professional community arts practitioners to attend or participate in activities related to the development of their practice/careers.

What has changed?

  • There are now FOUR deadlines each year year instead of three. The deadline dates are February 10th, May 10th, September 10th, and November 10th.
  • Make sure you have downloaded and reviewed the updated program application forms.
  • Please note the General Guidelines have recently been updated.

Reception to Welcome Artists from Basse-Normandie, France

Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art and the Manitoba Arts Council are pleased to invite you to a reception welcoming three artists, Lucie Poirier, Joséphine Billey, and Romuald Jandolo-Dumas, from the Basse-Normandie region of France. The artists will be in Winnipeg for the month of April participating in an artist residency. The reception will take place on Thursday April 2, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. This event is free and all are welcome to attend.

Revisions to guidelines reflect MAC’s commitment to effective, equitable, and efficient grant making while responding to the needs of Manitoba artists and communities.

The General Guidelines are applicable to all artists, individuals, groups, and organizations considering applying for funding with the Manitoba Arts Council and are to be used in conjunction with specific program guidelines and applications.

The General Guidelines contain information about the granting process, eligibility and application requirements, support material requirements, MAC’s equity and confidentiality policies, and final reporting requirements.

2015-16 Artists in the Schools Directory Now Online

The 2015-2016 AIS Directory is now online for schools wishing to submit an application to the Artists in the Schools Residency Program for the 2015-2016 school year.

Artists in the Schools Residency Program: May 15 application deadline for schools

The Artists in the Schools program supports existing arts education programs in Manitoba schools through artist residencies integrated into the school’s instructional schedule. The program is intended for students in Kindergarten through Grade 12.

Residency costs are shared by the school and the Manitoba Arts Council (MAC).

Residency length: 1-10 weeks (5 days/week)

New arts and learning manager at MAC

Douglas Riske, executive director of the Manitoba Arts Council, is pleased to announce that Leanne Foley has been appointed as MAC’s arts and learning manager. Leanne is currently the communications manager at MAC and will officially move into her new position on January 12, 2015. A search for a new communications manager will begin immediately.

Susan Israel, the previous arts and learning manager, retired this past summer, after leading more than ten years of significant growth and change in all aspects of the work.

“We look forward to Leanne’s building on MAC’s respected Artist in the Schools and ArtsSmarts initiatives which have proven so valuable in schools and communities throughout the province.” (Douglas Riske, executive director)

Leanne brings a wide range of experience in both the performing arts and arts education.…
