Susan Israel holds a BA in Theatre from the University of Winnipeg, and a BEd from the Ontario Teacher Education College. She has been working at MAC since 2001, beginning as a program consultant in theatre and dance. In 2003 Susan began managing the Artists in the Schools Residency Program, and became the Arts Education Manager in January 2008. Before coming to MAC Susan worked as a classroom teacher for over 20 years in elementary schools and in Adult English as a Second Language. Susan is passionate about music, and she is active in the Winnipeg folk music scene, as a performer, fiddle teacher and composer. She grew up in Winnipeg’s North End, where she currently lives with her husband Sam. They have two adult children, both of whom are accomplished musicians.
