Melanie Rocan – 2014 Deep Bay Artists’ Residency

Melanie is a Manitoba-raised artist whose paintings sensitively explore fragile, subconscious states. She received an MFA in painting from Concordia University. A three-time semi-finalist for the RBC Painting Competition, Melanie has exhibited at the Winnipeg Art Gallery, Plug-In ICA, MOCCA and The Power Plant in Toronto, the Museé d’art contemporain de Montreal, as well as venues in Glasgow and the United States.
Residency project: While at the cabin, Shaun and Melanie will work on a body of small mixed-media works on canvas and will start a collaboration of miniature sculptures made with a variety of materials, including wood carving, polymer clay, wax, plaster, and acrylic paint.
